"PLUTO MONTH"
A horrible injustice has occurred! Concerned citizens, aghast astronomers, intrepid interstellar adventurers, and other luminaries have joined forces to protest one of the darkest days in recent solar system history. Pluto—the smallest and most distant planet—has been removed from the planetary pantheon.
We refuse to bow to this outrageous decree, and declare: PLUTO IS A PLANET.
To honor our smallest neighbor, Greenwood Space Travel Supply Co. has declared March as "Pluto Month". This March 13 marks the 80th anniversary of the official announcement of the discovery of Pluto and has become a totemic date for all those who wish to see the IAU decision to reclassify Pluto overturned; lawmakers in New Mexico (home to the Lowell Observatory, the observatory that first spotted Pluto) and Illinois (birthplace of Clyde Thombough, Pluto's discoverer) have both declared March 13 as Pluto Day. We say - why not a whole month!
The 3rd Annual Pluto IS a Planet protest march and rally may be over, but the celebration continues. Check out this great video of the protest captured by Greg Schiederer of Seattle Astronomy Examiner.
